GRSS School
GeoIntelligence for Sustainable Precision Agriculture
to the fields beneath us.
“The Earth has always been telling us a story.”Every crop that grows, every drop of water that moves, every change in the soil leaves a trace across the planet, but what if we could see those changes from above?
From acquiring data about the Earth to understanding crops and soil and finally using intelligence to manage water and irrigation, this event takes you from observation to insight and from insight to action.
Our journey begins at the place where engineers learn to turn possibilities into reality.
The National Institute of Engineering
Eight decades of pioneering technical education in Mysuru
Established in 1946, NIE has grown into one of India's leading engineering institutions, building a legacy of education, innovation, and technological excellence.
Today, that journey extends far beyond the campus, beyond the horizon, and beyond the atmosphere into the satellite systems that allow us to observe and nurture our planet itself.
NIE IEEE Student Branch — GRSS
Bridging academic discovery and space-age remote sensing
At the heart of this journey is the NIE IEEE Student Branch — GRSS, bringing the world of geoscience and remote sensing closer to students.
Backed by IEEE, GRSS brings together a global community exploring Earth through remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and Earth observation. That global vision takes shape through hands-on technical learning, expert mentorship, and real-world Earth telemetry.
The Schedule
Three Days. Three Perspectives. Three Leaps.
The journey unfolds in three stages — from seeing the Earth, to understanding it, to making smarter decisions for it.
See the Earth Differently
Geospatial Data Acquisition & Earth Observation
Begin with Geo-AI for Precision Agriculture, bringing together satellite, UAV, and field-based observations.
Then get hands-on with Google Earth Engine and UAV data to map agricultural fields and monitor crops.
Read What the Land Reveals
Geo-AI for Crop & Soil Assessment
Go deeper with machine learning and deep learning for crop classification and agricultural monitoring.
Explore how Geo-AI can reveal crop health, soil moisture, and vegetation stress—then apply it yourself using satellite and UAV data.
Turn Intelligence into Action
Geo-AI for Water Management & Precision Irrigation
Explore AI-driven approaches to agricultural drought, crop water stress, and irrigation management.
Bring it all together by developing a Geo-AI-based Precision Irrigation Decision-Support System.
The Speakers
Perspectives from across the globe.
Hear from leading researchers, academicians and professionals representing prestigious institutions in India and around the world, bringing together diverse expertise across GeoIntelligence, Earth Observation, GeoAI and sustainable agriculture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about participating in the workshop.
What is the GeoIntelligence for Sustainable Precision Agriculture School?
It is an intensive 3-day technical workshop organized by the NIE IEEE Student Branch GRSS Chapter. It bridges satellite remote sensing, UAV drone telemetry, and Artificial Intelligence (Geo-AI) to address critical real-world challenges in precision crop monitoring, soil assessment, and sustainable water irrigation.
Who can participate in the event?
Participation is open to undergraduate engineering students, postgraduate students, PhD research scholars, academic faculty members, young professionals, and industry specialists interested in satellite analytics, remote sensing, GIS, and precision agriculture.
Is there any registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee for the event. Participants can register free of cost through the registration portal. After the registration process, participants will be shortlisted based on the selection criteria, and only the selected participants will get the opportunity to attend and be part of the three-day GRSS School.
What will be provided to the participants?
Participants will receive official IEEE GRSS Certificates of Completion, access to hands-on laboratory sessions, curated geospatial and drone datasets, workshop technical kits, and expert mentorship from leading academic and industry researchers. Participants will also be provided with meals and refreshments throughout the event, along with exclusive event goodies.
Will the event include hands-on training?
